Description

What are Minoxidil 2.5mg / Dutasteride 0.5mg Capsules?

These capsules combine Minoxidil 2.5mg and Dutasteride 0.5mg in a single convenient daily capsule. This is an unlicensed off-label combination treatment. Dutasteride achieves greater DHT suppression (approximately 90%) than Finasteride (approximately 70%), making this combination one of the most potent medical treatments for androgenetic alopecia available.

How do they work?

Dutasteride inhibits both type I and type II 5-alpha reductase enzymes, suppressing approximately 90% of DHT — the hormone that causes follicle miniaturisation. Minoxidil acts as a vasodilator, widening blood vessels to increase the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the scalp, prolonging the hair growth phase and increasing hair density. Together, they attack hair loss from two distinct angles.

Dutasteride vs Finasteride

  • Dutasteride inhibits both type I and type II 5-alpha reductase; Finasteride inhibits type II only
  • Dutasteride achieves approximately 90% DHT suppression vs approximately 70% with Finasteride
  • Greater benefit for men who have not responded to Finasteride
  • Longer half-life — remains in the body longer after stopping treatment

How to take them

Take one capsule once daily, whole (do not crush or break), with or without food, at the same time each day.

Who should not take these capsules?

  • Women
  • Anyone under 18
  • People with heart, liver, or kidney problems
  • People already taking blood pressure medication
  • People with urinary retention issues or prostate issues
  • Anyone allergic to Minoxidil, Dutasteride, soya, peanuts, or their components

FAQ

Q: Who is this treatment best suited to?

A: This combination is particularly suited to men with moderate to advanced male pattern hair loss, or those who have not responded adequately to Finasteride. Our prescriber will assess your suitability through your online consultation.

Q: Why Dutasteride rather than Finasteride?

A: Dutasteride achieves approximately 90% DHT suppression vs approximately 70% with Finasteride, by inhibiting both type I and type II 5-alpha reductase. It is a stronger option for those who need greater DHT suppression.

Q: Is this a licensed medicine?

A: This is an unlicensed combination medicine prescribed off-label. Both individual ingredients are well-established treatments. Our UK-registered prescriber will assess your clinical suitability.

Q: How long before I see results?

A: Stabilisation of hair loss is typically noticed within 3–6 months of continuous daily use. Peak benefit is usually achieved within 9–12 months.

Q: What if my partner is pregnant?

A: Pregnant women must not handle leaking capsules as Dutasteride can be absorbed through the skin and may affect male foetal development. Use condoms throughout treatment.
