Description

What Is Viagra?

Viagra is the original prescription medicine for erectile dysfunction, first approved over 25 years ago. It contains the active ingredient sildenafil citrate and belongs to the PDE5 inhibitor class. It is manufactured by Pfizer, the company that originally developed it. Viagra enhances blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation, helping to achieve and maintain an erection. Sexual arousal is always required.

How Does It Work?

During sexual stimulation, nitric oxide is released in the penis triggering production of cyclic GMP, which relaxes smooth muscle and widens blood vessels. An enzyme called PDE5 breaks down cyclic GMP. Viagra temporarily blocks this enzyme, allowing improved blood flow and stronger erections during arousal. It does not increase sexual desire or alter testosterone levels.

Dosing & How to Take

Available in 25mg, 50mg and 100mg. The usual starting dose is 50mg. Take 30–60 minutes before sexual activity. Swallow whole with water. Can be taken with or without food, but high-fat meals may slow absorption and delay effect. Maximum one tablet per 24-hour period.

How Effective Is Viagra?

Viagra has an extensive evidence base from clinical trials showing significant improvement in erection quality in the majority of men. Some men require a few attempts before achieving optimal results. If Viagra does not provide sufficient improvement, a pharmacist may adjust the dose or recommend an alternative such as Tadalafil.

Viagra vs Generic Sildenafil

Viagra and generic Sildenafil contain the same active ingredient at the same strengths. They are clinically identical in terms of safety and effectiveness. The differences are branding, packaging and price. Both are equally effective when sourced from a regulated UK pharmacy. Choice is a personal preference.

FAQ

Q: How quickly does Viagra work?

Q: How long does Viagra last?

A: Effects usually last around 4 to 6 hours, depending on the individual.

Q: Is Viagra safe for long-term use?

A: Viagra has been used worldwide for over two decades. Its long-term safety profile is well established when used appropriately. It is not addictive and does not cause physical dependence.

Q: What is the maximum dose of Viagra?

A: The maximum recommended dose is 100mg in any 24-hour period.

Q: Can I take Viagra with alcohol?
